Replistor 6.4 failure after Windows updates (Server 2003, x86, VMWare)
We're running RepliStor 6.4 SP2 HF5 on a Windows 2003 Server x86 Standard Edition SP2 operating system inside a VMWare version 7 virtual machine. This was working fine until four Windows updates were applied last night. Following a server reboot to finish the Windows update process there are errors from RepliStor in the Windows System log stating "Section open failed (\BaseNamedObjects\RepliStor_SHARED_MEMORY)."
The Windows updates that were applied are:
- KB2360937 - "Vulnerability in Windows Local Procedure Call could cause elevation of privilege"
- KB2509553 - "Vulnerability in DNS Resolution could allow remote code execution: April 12, 2011"
- KB2555917 - "Vulnerabilities in Windows kernel-mode drivers could allow elevation of privilege: July 12, 2011"
- KB2507938 - "Vulnerabilities in Windows CSRSS could allow elevation of privilege: July 12, 2011"
Has anybody else observed these issues with these updates?

I checked with engineering and as far as they know there is no conflict with these hot fixes. I agree with one of the other contributors that the best alternative is to remove RepliStor and re-install the product. If you have any problems with the normal un-install I recommend you contact EMC Support who can provide manual un-install instructions. Hopefully you have the license key in your records. If not either contact EMC Licensing who can look up your current license keys or contact EMC Support before you remove it. Unless you have done a config export recently you will need to re-create any specifications you have currently.

Hi,
In my environment, these four patches are installed, but this phenomenon does not occur.
This error was in the article on the knowledge base.
Cause
The drive with the RepliStor installation and or Data Directory was removed from the server and the software was not reinstalled.
Resolution
Uninstall and reinstall RepliStor.
