The times I have seen this happen it was related to Exchange permissions not being properly set for the service account.

Please add EMC SourceOne service account or EMC SourceOne security group to "Exchange View-Only Admins" group on Exchange 2010. Once action is taken, wait for permissions to propagate and check again in EMC SourceOne Admin Console.

i have checked for permissions the service account has all the recommended permissions on exchange

Check Permissions at the Server and Storage Group levels to be sure they are propagating and inheritance has'nt been removed.
