Hi Darren,

very interesting point. I run a test having myself a very long email address (>30 characters). - As you are aware, wild card searches are reserved for admin searches only.

Having said this:
- Searching on the To: or From: address also in the specified fields (to, sent to) will bring you the right results no matter the length of the email addresses.
- Search on domains in the "general" search field (where header, body, and attachments are searched), I must agree that in this case a wildcard search like *@veryverylongdomain.com (larger 20 characters) will not bring up the correct results.

Please verify this yourself and as I am not EMC and your query might be of concern to you or your data security officer, don't hesitate to query EMC/support for this.

Hope this is of help to you. Best regards,
Jochen.

thanks Jochen

I did open a ticket with EMC and this is what they said

If you search for messages sent to a specific user from an Internet address domain, unexpected results can occur. This is because the address is truncated to 20 characters by the indexer.

For example, if the domain address is bob@company.com, the indexer contains the complete email address. But if the domain address is santaclaus@northpole.com, the indexer truncates the address at santaclause@northpole. If you then search for *@northpole.com, no matches are found.

Assuming mail from NorthPole.com is SMTP, you can use the following search expression to select only mail coming into the company from outside:

SMTP IN xvFrom

Hence

In the Search for words using the following key word: SMTP IN xvFROM

In the ¿from¿ filed type as follows: *@domain.com

Thie "SMTP in xvFrom" is a new to me! First tests I have dome seem to work though.
