Adding DVD Drive

What is the best way for me to add a DVD drive to my C600 Latitude? I was hoping it was only a matter of purchasing a hardware insert that can be inserted where the floppy disc drive goes, and downloading the software. Thanks for any pointers. Larry

GPDC2,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
You can purchase an additional drive for your media bay from Dell Spare Parts.
Your system may also require a Margi DVD-to-Go decoder card for smoother DVD play back.
The card is a hardware DVD decoder, that does the decoding of the DVD video files, instead
of having the system processor or video chipset do it.
This increases the performance of the DVD video play back, and may prevent skipping and stuttering.

-If you purchase the drive by itself, you will also need to purchase DVD playing software.
Like WinDVD or PowerDVD.
-If you device to purchase the drive and the Margi DVD-to-Go decoder card, it should include
software you can use.

Dell Spare Parts Phone# 800-372-3355 Ext:6-9937
Note: Most parts purchased through Dell Spare Parts do not include software.
You may need to purchase the software, such as Roxio Easy CD Creator, or WinDVD separately.

is that Margi DVD to go hardware or software? I saw it when I was downloading drivers for my Latitude CSXh. I wasnt sure if this was something of a patch. When I play a DVD on my laptop (external DVD drive) it plays fine but sometimes it has like a 1/2 a second pause while watching the movie. Would thsi margi thing help?

Pogoman-

I can't answer your questions, but I can tell you it is expensive. The parts people quoted $299., which puts it over the top for me. Based upon the total prices quoted, the total upgrade was over $450. I wanted my son to be able to view DVDs in the car on long trips. For much less, I'll buy a small TV with DVD player.
