Cyberlink 10 Power DVD Media Essentials LE on new XPS does not have "create disc" option

Hi

I have a brand new XPS 8700 that came with version 10 of Cyberlink Power DVD, and upon setting up the PC it was upgraded to version 10.01. After producing a video I found the "create disk" option greyed out, and the DVD burner does not appear in the device tab. The DVD drive does work as I was able to copy files to and from it with Windows 8.1 (have Update 1 also). I tried setting the default for creating  discs to this program in control panel but that did not help. Program does offer options for output to  DV tape, X-Box, phone etc. According to the instructions it seems it should be able to burn a disc; there is no mention anywhere I can find and no pop-ups that say creating DVD is not a feature in this version. Tried to download new version from DELL (10.2) which is listed for my PC, but the SmartSource application says security doesn't match and won't allow it. All drivers are up to date. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi DSW1950,

I have not used this application so I can't speak from personal experience. I've only ever used Cyberlink to watch DVD movies.

Do you have the option to create an ISO of the DVD or the video files, which could then be burned to a DVD? Are you sure your optical drive supports burning DVD media?

Hi

I could perhaps do that but all of the authoring as far as chapters etc is supposed to be done through the "create disk" menu, which is geyed out. I tested the drive  by correctly burning files to DVD using Windows 8.1; the problem seems to be that the Cyberlink Power Director doesn't  recognize that the drive is available (it does offer the correct file structure for DVDs, just no DVD device listed in the "Produce Video" menu. I finally found a link on the Cyberlink site with instructions for getting assistance; hopefully it may help although the most recent update they have for version 10 is a year older than what Dell installed, and they make no reference to the LE version of the program.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I know there are versions specific to Dell OEM installations, and there are separate commercial versions.

Thanks for the info. I re-installed the program and updated it from the Cyberlink site. Other apps from the Media Essentials Suite do show and use the drive, so I know it is not a drive issue.  I will contact tech support at Cyberlink to see if the version supplied to Dell supplied has the disc-authoring part of the program disabled even though it can create a DVD file with many marvelous effects, transitions, sound etc. This would seem extremely short-sited as there are many other full programs available from Amazon for less than the "special Cyberlink upgrade offer for Dell".

Thanks to all for your assistance

I checked the Cyberlink site and unfortunately it's difficult for me to tell whether the Dell version supports DVD video authoring.

Hi DSW1950,

Did you get this issue resolved? I have the exact same issue (and same PC).

Hi

Problem was not with the PC but with the software. Answer from Cyberlink was the version shipped with a PC required you to buy an upgrade in order to burn to disc. Did buy  it but the cost was  almost as much as buying the complete program from Amazon, and the upgrade still was missing some features that it appeared to have until you clicked on one of them and were informed it was not included.  Cyberlink told the upgrade supplied via the Dell package was not the same as the full retail upgrade and they suggested I buy another upgrade.  I declined their offer  :)
