Hardiskdrive Q about Dell Dimension 8200
Hello!
I got a Dell Dimension 8200 with BIOS A01! (P4, 1.8GHz,100Gb drive, 256Mb RD-Ram)
My "Q" is what is the bigest hardiskdrive that i could use on my system? (without a controller-card)
The hardiskdrive in the system right now is a Western Digital 100Gb, i simply wonder could i put in a 200Gb/160Gb drive in the system? without buying a controller-card? ... or could i do a bois upgrade to fit a 200Gb or 160Gb drive?

To install a large [above137GB] hard drive in the 8200 without an controller card, requires Windows XP to be completely updated with SP1 and the BIOS to A02 or higher.

Windows 2000 systems with a large hard drive are required to have SP 4 installed.

shesagordie,
So what you are saying is that i CAN use Win 2000 (with SP4, that im using right now) just add the 48-Bit LBA Support,
But what BIOS version do i got to have? im using A01 right now.
So i will be able to use a 200Gb harddrive just to add LBA Support in Win 2000. and just(?) update the bios?
I will buy a Western Digital WD2000PB ATA100 200GB 8 Mb cache with Fluid bearing, and i have checkt the Western Digital homepage they got a program that make you be able to run bigger drives then 137Gb. (In Win2000/98/ME)
its called "Data Lifeguard Tools V. 11.0"

A02 or higher.
Until you add SP4 and LBA support, only 137gb will show.
Regards to using WDC "Lifeguard Tools" that's up to you, personally I only use the diagnostic part of "Lifeguard".
