NEC 1100A - +R or -R or both??
I'm confused...
I found this document on the NEC website, which says their drive supports both +R and -R media.
look under "Media / Modes Supported." it lists both + and -
This forums suggests that only +R is supported. Which would make sense, as I've tried a few different brands of -R (that I got for free, so no harm) and my computer won't recognize them.
So what's the deal? Do I have to get +R? What's the difference anyway?

Hi Andy,
The Dell NEC 1100a supports writing to the DVD+R and DVD+RW media only, it does not write to DVD-R/ -RW media. Hover your mouse over the Product Support Tab above, click on User Guides / Storage / select DVD+RW link, then check the spec sheet for yourself.
However .. If warranty is not an issue, I must say that per Dell-Mod, there is a "hacked" firmware update that does convert the drive to a NEC 1300 which supports both formats, of course you use at your own risk...

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
