no slave s-ata drive found

Hi everybody,

got my dell 8300 today with a s-ata drive inside (only hardrive)

i try to connect my second s-ata drive to the second s-ata channel on the motherboard.

the drive by itself is fine. no hardwareproblems but i can't see the drive.

there is no secondary s-ata drive in the bios and no secondary drive on the system.

i can't find a place in the bios to enable s-ata secoondary channel or something like that

i try to find out if i need jumper settings to set the new drive as slave or cable selected but as far as i know s-ata drives don't need jumper settings cause every drive got his own channel.

so i hope someone in this forum can help me get my second drive running.

thanks

Should have two SATA ports to enable.   Port 0 and 1 in your setup.

May want to check the disk mananager after boot up to see if it show up there.   Right click My Computer and choose manage.

Anyway on my XPS I had no problem installing a second SATA drive, fairly straight forward.   Installed Drive, Connected Cable, connected power, enabled it BIOS, paritioned + formated.

in the bios under drive configuration it should be there. If not then call Dell.

Thx much for your fast answers.

Fixed the System yesterday night after several trys.

There are small differents in DELL BIOS. I only had to go into the Drives Menue select the 2nd S-ATA and use the right arrow key to set the option on auto.  (shame on me)

After reboot i got a messege about changes to the system and had to press F2. System reboots and everything works fine.

But i found out that if u connect an IDE Drive as Master to the 2nd IDE Channel it will not shown up in the BIOS. But after boot the system the drive is available under windows.

Don't know why but it doesn't matter as long as the system runs

thanks again to everybody who try to help me out
