ECC in a VM client

Will ECC 5.2 SP5 run in a VM client? Has anybody done this and is it supported? Our hardware is soon to be out of warranty and we are looking at options other than replacing the server.

Download the ControlCenter 5.2 SP5 Support Matrix document from Powerlink documentation section.

This document outlines in detail what is supported. If it's not listed, then it's not supported.

Based on what I read only certain agents are supported on a VM client.

That's correct, and only supported in a VMware Windows guest.

And those certain agents are;

Master Agent
Storage Agent for CLARiiON
Fibre Channel Connectivity Agent
Storage Agent for NAS
Workload Analyzer Archiver (WLA Archiver)
Storage Agent for SMI
EMC Invista Agent

As per the support matrix.

We have done testing in vmware by installing ECC on it, it works, its just not officially supported, so not production option.
