Migrate ECC 6.1 to a new server
Hi,
I need some clarificiation regarding ECC 6.1 migration from one server to a different server.
This is what our current ECC 6.1 infrastructure looks like.
Host1(Windows 2003 Standard Edition, SP2, 32 Bit)
ControlCenter Repository
ControlCenter Server
ControlCenter Store
Host2
StorageScope Repository
And we want to migrate ECC components from host1 to brand new server(with new HBAs) running windows 2008, SP2 64 bit if possible. We’ll keep the same server name and IP.
I want to know if this migration is possible. I opened a case with EMC and they gave me the patch 4345. But, I still want some clarification moving from Win2003 32 bit to win2008 64 bit and having new HBAs on the new server and I still did not hear from EMC.
Thought I will post it here and get a quick answer
Thanks,
Julia P.

Hi Julia,
To migrate ControlCenter from a 32-bit to 64-bit windows OS you cannot use 4345 this is only designed to migrate from a windows 32 bit OS to another32 bit OS.
Please find the attached document "CC migration 2k3 to 2k8.docx" on the procedure/steps required when moving ControlCenter form a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS.

Hi Julia,
Just to add the required procedure starts on page 5 of the above document it will work for migrating any version of ControlCenter from the current version of Windows OS to a different version of Windows OS includes a conversion from Windows 32-bit to Windows 64-bit.

One more clarification. I hope using this procedure in page 5, we wont loose the historical data and don't end up installing all the host agents?

I searched the powerlink for HF4826, but I cannot find it. Can someone point me to the right location?

Hi,
HF4826 was replaced with the latest ControlCenter 6.1 Backup and Restore Utility on Powerlink -- Patch 4887
Home > Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads C > ControlCenter v 6.x > ControlCenter 6.x Utilities
Ionix ControlCenter 6.1 Backup and Restore Utility is a script and procedure in creating a backup copy of the EMC Ionix ControlCenter infrastructure before an update bundle is applied. The Backup and Restore Utility readme also provides detail to assist if you are trying to recover Ionix ControlCenter after a disaster, swapping hardware due to lease terminations or upgrading the hardware specifications to manage a growing storage environment.
When the document mentions "P&S guides" it is refering to the Planning and Installation Guides which are on powerlink.
Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ E-I ~ Documentation > Ionix Family > Ionix for Storage Resource Management > Ionix ControlCenter > 6.1.x & Service Packs
Follow the steps in the document to successfully migrate from a 32 bit OS to 64 bit OS.

Appreciate your response on this Conor. I'll review the document and will be migrating our server by next week or so.
Will keep you posted on the status.
