Hey thanks so much.  I have been trying to re-install support assist for over a year now and this worked.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I had the same issue with the newest ver. 3.9.2. After uninstalling all DELL apps like Power Manger, SupporAssist OS recovery something etc., cleaning both DELL (Dell, Dell Inc) directories in C:\ProgramData dir and cleaning registry with CCleander I finally managed to install it. I am not sure which part helped, but probably cleaning registry or ProgramData directory.

BR,

Marc

Follow this Guide from start to end do not miss any steps

You may find that a few thing I am recommending to delete are already deleted from your computer so skip those steps.

1 Use Microsoft's Installer :

This step is crucial as Microsoft's uninstaller disables the services as well. Choose SupportAssist and uninstall, Uninstall Dell updates by running the the uninstaller again. If Support Assist doesn't show in List ignore this step.

Reboot (important)

2. Delete following folders and ignore the once which are already deleted.

C:/ Program Data/ PCDR

C:/ Program Data/Supportassist

C:/ Program Data/Dell/Dell data volt

C:/ Program Files/ Dell/Supportassist

C:/ Program Files/ Dell/ Dell data Volt

C:/ windows/Temp (everything inside the folder

Remove these Registries

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services key.

Delete Dell hardware service, Delete Dell client management service, Delete Dell updates.

Reboot

install SupportAssist

It means you are running windows 8.1 ???

Install every single update from windows updates.

I have this problem from time to time. I have tried all solutions proposed here and none worked. I also contacted customer service and the only solution they give is to reinstall windows entirely, which is unacceptable! This is happening in an Aurora R9

In my particular case, I had a freshly imaged system failing to install support assist. I simply had to delete everything in the c:\program data\dell folder and the windows\temp folder and reboot. Then, I had to make sure that i was logging in to the computer as a user with local admin rights then, I was able to do the install by browsing to the dell support website and doing a check for updates.

This is an old topic but I will still reply as this has the most responses.

  • This is what worked for me.

If by chance you did everything that is suggested. Uninstalled, tried softwares to force uninstall, change registries, deleted files and on. And it STILL doesn't let you install it.

Uninstall all Dell programs. Go back to Program Data, open the Dell folder and delete everything in it. Same with Dell inc. And then try and install Support Assist by right clicking and "run as administrator". It should work.

Finally a working solution, thanks!

Revo Uninstaller did the job. Used it to remove SupportAssist and Remediator.

Embarrassingly, the installation process just silently quit when done, it looked like another crash. It's successfully installed, though.
