Feedback on SupportAssist and various issues
I'm not asking for support on this, just providing some feedback and information that may help Dell fix some of this. If I can help or provide any more info, just let me know.
I have a Late 2020 Inspiron 15 AMD 5000 Series 5505 with the Ryzen 4500U.
This came with SupportAssist version 3.8.0.108 installed.
When I first setup the new laptop a couple of weeks ago, the first thing I did was use SupportAssist to apply all of the latest updates as well as run the system check, etc. This all appeared to work fine and several updates were successfully installed.
Today, when I ran SupportAssist and again ran "Get Drivers & Downloads", it appeared to try to do something and then briefly displayed the following messages before they disappeared: "Validating Results", then "An unexpected error occurred". Rebooting and retrying did not work.
Suggestion: Keep failures like this in a log. It's frustrating when error messages like this are displayed and just go away.
I then followed the instructions in the pinned discussion "SA uninstall/reinstall". At first, this did not appear to work because the final step of the installer reported that it failed. I rebooted and tried the install again, but then it indicated that the latest version was already installed. A review of the Windows Event Viewer reveals this:

Description:
Failed to end a Windows Installer transaction {684820E8-F6AA-4162-A547-317DA6BED1FB}. Error 1622 occurred while ending the transaction.
In any case, I then completed the instructions and re-installed the Update Plugin and rebooted.
I was then able to run "Get Drivers & Downloads", but it failed the first time. I tried again, and then it installed 2 updates. Yay!
However, it did not update the Realtek audio driver. My system currently has version 6.0.9025.1 installed. The support page for my laptop indicates that version 6.0.9061.1 is available. Why did SupportAssist not install this? (The driver was only updated last week, so maybe SoftwareAssist isn't yet aware of it?)
I'm not sure if this is related to SupportAssist, but in Windows Event Viewer under Applications and Services there is a Dell log that repeatedly reports the following issue:
