SA, latest version not working

I downloaded the latest version of SA (Support Assist) (Version 2) a few days ago. When I try to open it, it tries to load but won't load properly (icon just continues to flash and flash), with a message that optimization tools are loading.

The same problem occurs when I try to open it as administrator. There is no option to repair this app when I go to Settings. The only 2 options are "modify" or "uninstall"

This new version of Support Assist is installed on both my XPS 8930.

Is any body else having a problem with this latest version? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Good day, all -

Try as I may, I just cannot get SupportAssist to run.

This, even though it is properly installed.  I'm not

technically savvy enough to delve into anything

more than downloading a link. So, no "do this

then do that" stuff, like "regedit," please.

So, please, someone, just send a link for me to

download and run something that will allow me

to use SupportAssist.

Thanks . . .

from page 12, this worked for me

  1. Open command prompt as admin
  2. run "cd C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\bin"
  3. run "SupportAssistUI.exe launch"

THIS PROBLEM is NOT solved. My Inspiron 13-7359 - and probably most other laptops - can not launch Support Assist. These "moderators" only moderate the narrative; they tag their own entry as the "solution". This is just silly talk and misinformation.

SupportAssist will not run on the Inspiron laptops. The problem is not solved.  2019MAR19

Perhaps it will be fixed by spring 2019; however, it's not gonna' fix itself, eh. It requires new coding.

Joe - any update on this?

About SupportAssist still shows v3.1.0.142 as latest version.

I am referring to:

@paulderdash for Hardware Scan see this post to verify defect.  If so it will be fixed in v3.2 end of March approx.

There were some delays in the release but v3.2 was launched globally today 4.8.19, your system should be updated if you have SupportAssist.  Go to Settings > About SupportAssist.  If not run the exe below or follow these steps for a clean install if uninstalled or having any issues.  Latest version is 3.2.0.90.

Uninstall SupportAssist via the Control Panel if available
Then delete these directories if they exist
C:\ProgramData\PCDr
C:\ProgramData\SupportAssist
C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent

Try installing via Dell web-site, download and right click and run as administrator

Thanks Joe, timely query then!

Install worked after an uninstall, and removal of the (first two) directories, But only after a reboot.

Pleased to report 'Scan hardware' is working now.

paulderdash - did you have upgrade issue? SA wasn't updated to the latest version? Just curious on why you need to reinstall completely

April 10th, 2019 08:00

The latest update worked on my Inspiron 3670 but will not install on my XPS 13  9370 and just hangs on "getting Application files.

Spent 3 hours with Dell support but no luck.

Tried all the fixes on here but no luck.

Any suggestions

I have just solved the problem.

I logged in as Administrator and ran SupportAssist which then successfully updated. It hung on the screen saying updates were available. I closed the window and when I then opened SupportAssist it worked.

I then logged back in as User, downloaded from the Microsoft store and it worked!

VERY Frustrated here!!   This has happened on several computers lately.

First, it is working fine and then it upgraded itself to the newest version [3.2] and stopped working.

So I uninstalled it and removed these manually:

C:\ProgramData\PCDr

C:\ProgramData\SupportAssist

C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent

Then reinstalled as administrator but now it says it needs administrator access to run fully.  I am running as an admin and I installed it as admin, so what is going on here???!  Is it because the computer is in a domain?

Error message:

"Not All SupportAssist features are enabled

Some features in support assist are designed to make changes to keep your PC up to date, optimize performance, and in some cases, remove viruses and malware.  Only a user with administrator rights can use these features.  Either sign in using an administrator account or contact your system administrator"

I am no expert but what I did was log out as a user and then logged back in as Administrator. I think I then used Revo Uninstaller to clear out SupportAssist.  I then reinstalled SupportAssist.  It seemed to stall at one stage but when I went in to Start Screen it was there and worked.

I then logged in as a user and could still see it on the Start Screen and it worked !

As I say I am no expert but have plenty of time tp play about with these things on a scattergun approach, but I remember when I had this problem on my desktop a few months ago a Dell techie sorted it by logging off as user and back on as an administrator

Well the issue is that I AM logged in as an administrator account.  The same one that it was reinstalled with!

It seems like this is happening sort of randomly... some machines work and others don't.

I think it may be something to do with having the computer added to the domain, but I'm not sure at this point!

As I said I am not an expert but what I would try is this.

1. Click on the "log in " icon on the start page

2. If "Administrator " shows in the list click on it.

3. Remove Support Assist with Revo Uninstaller.

4. Reinstall Support Assist.

If that doesn't work, I give up!!!

Please note that this thread was started in 2018 and SupportAssist v2.x is no longer offered by Dell.
