SA opens and immediately closes

Alienware x17 R1

Alienware x17 R1

I've been having this problem for about 2 months now. I have cleaned all my cache and cookie files, run every scan I can think of, updated everything, and uninstalled and reinstalled SA several times with the same result. I open it and the screen says loading (or whatever it says) and after a few seconds of the loading screen, it immediately closes.

It looks like I'm not the only one to have this issue are there any solutions?

Thanks for any help you can offer,

DJ

Hi DJR63:

Sorry, if I replied in this topic I have no idea where my post has gone (or what it said) so I'm not sure what fix you are referring to.

My best guess is that you are looking for employee DELL-Nat-M's SupportAssist clean reinstall instructions and video posted <here> on 08-Jul-2024 in CryNtheCar's topic Support Assist/Alienware Update Fail to Scan for updates.

Similar instructions are posted in the Dell support article Dell SupportAssist for PCs and Tablets Installation Issue, but DELL-Nat-M's instructions include a link to Microsoft's Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter that sometimes does a better job of cleaning up stray files and/or registry entries compared to a "regular" uninstall of SupportAssist from Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.

ASIDE: When I still had SupportAssist-related programs installed on my inspiron 5584 and needed to perform a clean reinstall I would uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Free in Aggressive Mode and allow this utility to delete any stray files and/or registry entries it could find during the final cleanup phase.

@lmacri Thank you!! Yes it's about the Alienware. I did a clean reinstall (I think) but there may be steps I didn't know about so maybe doing it per instructions above will make a difference. We'll see. One thing I forgot until you mentioned it...the last time SA ran it said there was a BIOS update but I don't think that installed correctly either.  If I'm not mistaken that is what started this mess. I got busy and since everything else was working fine I just let it go.

@lmacri  I finally got the time to try the fix you suggested...but it's gone? Can you help? Thanks!
