Support assist

Hello, I have run into an issue on my dell laptop XPS where it will work fine and then flash colours (red blue black green white) sequence over and over again. I have been told that I should try and update the driver on the system but when in try it says an error has occurred when trying to instal support assist and to restart my computer. As well as I am running into the issue that while I am trying to figure out how to update the drivers it will start flashing colours. If anyone has any advice please let me know! 

Things I have found 

- I have hooked it up to an external monitor and I can use my laptop even when it’s flashing colours 

- it doesn’t seem to be from over heating because sometimes it starts flashing colours after a couple minutes of use

Those flashing colors usually indicate that your screen display has encountered a problem and is trying to run a RBG (red/green/blue) graphics diagnostic test.  This is often caused by an incompatible or outdated graphics driver or failing graphics card.

What is your full XPS computer model (e.g., XPS 15 9570) and Windows operating system [please include the edition (e.g., Home, Pro, etc.), version and OS build number shown at Setting | System | About | Windows Specifications].

What graphics device(s) are installed in your computer and what are the current graphics driver version(s)?  If you aren't sure that information should be available in your Windows Device Manager under Display Adapters.  My Inspiron 15 5584 / Win 10 v22H2 laptop does not have a discrete graphics card (e.g., NVIDIA, GeForce, AMD Radeon, etc.) and this is what I see for the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU chip on my motherboard:

If you browse to https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us?app=products and enter your private Service Tag it should direct you to the correct support page for your Dell computer model.  A .exe installer for the recommended graphics driver that matches your discrete graphics card and/or integrated GPU chip should be listed on the Drivers & Downloads tab.
