Busanga,

How do I enable Dell SupportAssist OS recovery?

At the Dell logo, press the F2 key several times to access the BIOS Setup. Go to SupportAssist System Resolution or SupportAssist depending on your BIOS version. Go to SupportAssist OS Recovery. Click the checkbox to enable SupportAssist OS Recovery or SupportAssist depending on your BIOS version.

This can happen if the recovery partition is corrupted.

1. If you are able to get in windows than you should update SA OS Recovery plugin using SupportAssist it keep your recovery partition up to date.

2. if you are not able to get in to windows than please use Dell USB OS Recovery tool to create a bootable USB which can use in F12 menu.

You are trying to run the setup from windows itself

Run Media creation tool and choose the option of USB,

Once USB is created you can boot from it from F12 Menu

Although if your system is working fine I don't think reinstalling the OS is worth the effort. SupportAssist OS Recovery is just a fail-safe in case you have to Reinstall OS using a Dell image. You have tons of other options available to do the same.

My suggestion : Leave it the way it is. In case you have made up your mind choose the USB method in windows media creation tool

I understand i can load a new OS in many ways and apprecite all your help with this. i am trying to figure out why the SupportAssist OS recovery in F12 is not working when it was before.

i have another thread on here that describes my laptop just randomly shutting down to a black screen then i have to hold the power button down to switch off and re boot. is very annoying and that only started couple weeks ago

Hi Busanga:

Your original image <here> shows your system is trying to load SupportAssist (SA) OS Recovery v5.4.3.15135, which was released back in July 2021. I've received six updates for the SA OS Recovery Tools since then on my Inspiron 5584, and my Dell Update for Windows Universal v4.6.0 utility delivered the latest SA OS Recovery Tools v5.5.4.16189 update on 23-Aug-2022 that was over 200 MB and took several minutes to install.

Dell Update v4_6_0 Two Updates Available SA OS Recovery Tools v5_5_4_16189 EDITED 23 Aug 2022.png

Are you able to install the latest SA OS Recovery Tools  v5.5.4.16189 with either SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 or Dell Update / Dell Command | Update v4.6.0, and if so does SA OS Recovery v5.5.4.16189 still get stuck while loading when it's launched?  If v5.5.4.16189 still won't load correctly go to Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services and ensure the Status of the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service is "Running" .

EDIT:

Also check to see if you have the latest Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 System BIOS v1.18.0 (rel. 09-Aug-2022) listed <here> on the support page for the XPS 13 7390 2-in-1.   If you aren't sure, open a Run dialog box (Windows+R keys), enter msinfo32 to open your System Information panel, and look for the “BIOS Version/Date” field.
