When you "hot pull" devices from a remote storage to your brand new DMX, you can read/write the control device (the device in target DMX) while migration proceedes.
This means you have to

1) create zones between two storages
2) create OR hot pull session (don't forget QOS!)
3) shut down host
4) remove zones from host to old storage
5) activate OR session
6) create zones from host to targt storage
7) mask devices to host on target storage
8) wait 'till OR copies almost everything
9) boot host

Since you are hot pulling, the host will boot from DMX and DMX will fetch tracsk from source storage as needed. This MAY cause slow performances while booting and the host may hate this :-) That's why I suggested step 8.

I'm not an AIX expert but AIX LVM is quite smart and finds VGs depending on their VGIDs. AIX doesn't have an /etc/lvmtab file causing PITAs ;-)
Since the host is down when you activate the session I guess you won't have other issues. But again I'm not an AIX expert. I bet someone else may shade more light on glitches with AIX and OR.

So, What you say is that we can migrate the SAN boot devices using open replicator and then host will boot directly from those boot devices. But the hot pull is not the good partice. But we can do using the cold pull?

Yep the host can boot directly from DMX devices. Hot pull is good practice (we also sell a special license for hot pull). I'm simply warning you that it's better to copy almost all boot disk content BEFORE booting the host, with the host shutted down. That's it :-) .... Obviously you can use hot pull for regular data disks as needed.

Thank you, So we can we do in this way I will create a different session for boot devices and diferent session for other data disks. As we have only 2 boot devices the data in that session will complete fast. What do you say?

Thanks

Without direct knowledge of your environment, your hosts and your apps, I bet this is a good plan. But let's wait for other (different) experiences from other forum contributors... :-)

Thank you....As the source disks are on Hitachi and the destination disks would be the symmetrix...Do we need to install ODM Package and update the patches on the server which are on the Hitachi Storage and Mask the DMX disks on the server before we copy the data in the back ground using Open Replicator. Then we need to shut down the server and remove the zones between the Hitachi and the server and then copy the data in the back ground using OR and once copy has been done and then boot the server from the new DMX boot disks.

Could you please let me know if the above procedure is correct and please correct me if I am wrong?
