Create clone

how may concurrent TF/clone can be created in DMX?

Also what is the procedure to create clone of a 16 meta devices?

is it possible to mount the source LUN and target LUN on the same host?

I'm still scratching my head .. :D

I built a simple "concurrent" DG with 3 devices.
sasst0_dr/root> symdev -sid 658 -noport list | grep 10031 | tail -3
0700 Not Visible ???:? 02A:D16 RAID-5 N/Grp'd RW 10031
0701 Not Visible ???:? 02A:C17 RAID-5 N/Grp'd RW 10031
0702 Not Visible ???:? 01A:D17 RAID-5 N/Grp'd RW 10031

sasst0_dr/root> symdg create concurrent
sasst0_dr/root> symld -g concurrent add dev 700
sasst0_dr/root> symld -g concurrent add dev 701 -tgt
sasst0_dr/root> symld -g concurrent add dev 702 -tgt

I've created plain and simple -copy sessions for both targets.

sasst0_dr/root> symclone -g concurrent -copy create -tgt -nop DEV001 sym ld TGT001

'Create' operation execution is in progress for device 'DEV001'
paired with target device 'TGT001' in
device group 'concurrent'. Please wait...

'Create' operation successfully executed for device 'DEV001'
in group 'concurrent' paired with target device 'TGT001'.

sasst0_dr/root> symclone -g concurrent -copy create -tgt -nop DEV001 sym ld TGT002

'Create' operation execution is in progress for device 'DEV001'
paired with target device 'TGT002' in
device group 'concurrent'. Please wait...

'Create' operation successfully executed for device 'DEV001'
in group 'concurrent' paired with target device 'TGT002'.

Now I can query the group and check devices status.
sasst0_dr/root> symclone -g concurrent -multi query

Now I activate both targets concurrently (at least I try to...)

sasst0_dr/root> symclone -g concurrent -nop -concurrent activate -tgt

It looks like the command activated only the last clone I created ... Let's try again .. I terminate everything and create sessions again. Now I try again to activate both targets at the same time:

sasst0_dr/root> symclone -g concurrent -concurrent -nop activate -tgt DEV001 sym ld TGT001 DEV001 sym ld TGT002

'-concurrent': Incompatible option.

Do you have more commands you'd love to test ?? :D

Oh BTW .. I still don't have an answer to your question ;-)

you got some connections in the PSE lab ? Get some SE developers to explain what is "-concurrent" supposed to do ? :)

That's exactly what I'll do later. I'm unhappy when I have to scratch my head too long ;-)

Finally I ended scratching my head .. Now I remember why I used the -concurrent option. :D
And the solution is in primus emc180840 ...

Enjoy! :-)

thank you for doing all these tests. So from the solution:

symclone -g clone2 create -precopy -concurrent -tgt

how is this different if i would simply run:

symclone -g clone2 create -precopy -tgt

You need -concurrent when you have same STD in 2 different DG (and obviously 2 different TGT). If you create/activate the first pair (in first DG) you can't handle the second pair (in second DG) unless you use -concurrent option.

It's a not-that-nice side effect of having the same STD in multiple DGs.

I guess it's an unclear option and it's going to change sooner or later. :D
