if i may recommend excellent manuals found at Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ S ~ Documentation > Solutions Enabler > Maintenance/Administration
- mapping means making symdevices visible on an FA port - masking means not allowing all attached (= zoned) hosts to see everything on that FA port. Only the masked wwns can now see the symdev it's masked on.
Then the below command refers to mapping? symmask -sid -wwn add dev 01B -dir 7B -p0 Because i'm mentioning wwn number and port number in the same command.
if you are using Solutions Enabler to map devices you have to use symconfigure, alternative ways to map devices is by using ECC (EMC Control Center) or using SMC (Symmetrix Management Console) or to engage your local EMC technician and do it in the bin file.
Why is it that you get points for telling us about tools and the others don't get points for actually telling the difference between masking and mapping ?

map dev 01B to dir 7B:0, lun=005
and then running "symconfigure -sid 123 -f filename.txt commit" to actually map the device.

1) Solutions enabler (symcli)
2) ECC (EMC Control Center)
3) SMC (Symmetrix Control Center)
4) Bin file (done by EMC technician)
