port settings for different hosts
i havent dug on powerlink yet but would like to know if there is a document that will tell me various flags that need to be set on an FA for various OSs..
in other words...if i want to setup a FA for windows, which flags must be set on it and which must not be.

The windows ports have the following flags "enabled" ...
Common_Serial_Number(C)
Disable_Q_Reset_on_UA(D)
Init_Point_to_Point(PP)
Unique_WWN(UWN)
Auto_Negotiate(EAN)
VCM_State(VCM) This is optional, enable this for lun masking (aka volume logix).
All others are "disabled".
I hope this helps.

The e-lab navigator is not very user friendly. (What's up with those shopping carts anyway? It's not like we are buying anything there.)

Make sure you know the servers Model, OS's patch revison, if its connected through a switch, array type and enginuity. REMEMBER to read the sub notes that apply to the bit seeting you want to set.
It's not the best documents because it's so big, but everyone at EMC swear by it- calling it their 'bible'

There are multiple 'flags' on the FA's. They depend on OS, Environment attached to and HBA, etc. The first reply from Sysmgr gives an example of some. Also in a fabric or multiple Host type configuration, there are other 'flags' to consider. But in a one Host, direct attached environment, it will be more straight forward.
Please contact your local EMC CE for the settings and recommendations for your Symmetrix environment.

This is what I am trying to avoid...wanted to see if there is a precise customer viewable documentation which I can refer for this.

Grab the Symmetrix Device Masking CLI manual.
There is a section on setting the heterogeneous host flag, and a table describing the various settings. Of course this is via the masking, but it shows you what settings are emulated and what those settings are for.
Anyway, that table has been very helpful to me.
