Unmapping VCM device from FA

In preparation for making a FA an RA to support RDF, we have removed all devices that are currently using the FA (including 0 and 1 port). However, we still have the VCM device that needs to be addressed.

Does anyone know if removing via unmapping the VCM device is a customer allowable change that can be done online with software. Since VCM's are write disabled by design, in theory it should not be a problem to remove. However, in my testing it does not appear to be possible and the symconfigure script fails.

So you simply can't unmap the VCM .. :D

Leave it mapped and the CE will take care of cleaning it while converting your FA to RF.

Since changing a FA in a RF requires a binfile change, I think you can leave the VCM at its place and leave the pain to your favourite CE ;-)

A serious answer ...

Since you said that the VCM is write disabled, I suppose you are talking about a "good old" DMX1 or DMX2 .. In recent DMX 3 and DMX 4 the VCM is usually write enabled (since it's a gatekeeper) and I've been able to unmap it from the FA.

What version of symcli are you using ??

Yes, we are running on a DMX-1000. SE is 6.4.2.0 (build 845).
