VMAX cache board size question

Hello,

When I check the cache board size for our newly installed VMA using command "symcfg -sid xxxx list -memory", I see the following output:

Symmetrix ID : 00029260XXXX

Number of Memory Boards : 6

Slot Number Capacity(MB)

     4      28672

     5      28672

     6      28672

     7      28672

     8      28672

     9      28672

--------

Total (Usable Cache) 86016

--------

My question is why each board showing up as "28 GB" board?? As per documentation, the boards are either 16 or 32 or 64 GB each.

Could somebody explain this?

Thanks.

Hi UbayD,

The reason why you see only 28GB instead of 32GB for each board is because 4GB on each memory board is used by the symmetrix mircocode.

The microcode uses this space for Cache Tables, Common Area, etc.

Regards,

Joe.
