z/os Async mirroring?

Is Asynchronous mirror(srdf) possible with z/OS system volumes (ex, sysres, coupling datasets etc). Has anyone seen this work? If so could someone please elaborate!

Well, I can't elaborate too much because I work on the Open Systems side of a shared DMX3, but I can tell you this. EVERYTHING allocated to our mainframe LPARs is part of one big RDF group and it is in SRDF/A mode (most of the time).

Since I know there is no local storage on the mainframe (I'm not sure the model but it is running z/OS) that means they are booting off the DMX3 devices and ALL associated storage is provisioned from this array.

I can't really see how mirroring these volumes asynchronously would have anything to do with what is on them. The DMX3 doesn't know what you are using them for and z/OS doesn't know anything about the mirroring.

I'm new to the EMC DMX4 storage and would like to incorporate into Business recovery. Would it be possible to mix storage devices with SRDF/A, From DMX4 to a DS8100 IBM DASD or vice versa? Can the mainframe system be brought back up using DMX4 and IBM DS 8100 DASD mixed volumes?

Hardware,
SRDF/A Asynchronous is possible and if it fits into your backup/recovery scheme, is a viable option between EMC Symmetrix'. Consider LPAR access performance when enabling coupled dataset and sysres DASD.

Could you elaborate on the enabling coupling data sets and sysres dasd, also LPAR access. Our DMX4s or not installed yet, just on the floor and no training has been taken. So i'm brand new to EMC! Do you know of any reference material regarding this topic?

I'm not entirely clear on what you are asking here...

Are you asking if you can SRDF/A from the DMX4 to the IBM array? If that is the question, the answer is no. The SRDF family supports replication between Symmetrix arrays.

Are you asking if your mainframe can use devices from both the DMX4 and the IBM array at the same time? Absolutely! Although you may have difficulty keeping mirrored data from the DMX4 synchronized with mirrored data from the IBM array

Thank you.
Our recovery site lags behind our production site in terms of technology, question answered, we need new hardware at recovery site.
