z/os Async mirroring?
Is Asynchronous mirror(srdf) possible with z/OS system volumes (ex, sysres, coupling datasets etc). Has anyone seen this work? If so could someone please elaborate!

Since I know there is no local storage on the mainframe (I'm not sure the model but it is running z/OS) that means they are booting off the DMX3 devices and ALL associated storage is provisioned from this array.
I can't really see how mirroring these volumes asynchronously would have anything to do with what is on them. The DMX3 doesn't know what you are using them for and z/OS doesn't know anything about the mirroring.

SRDF/A Asynchronous is possible and if it fits into your backup/recovery scheme, is a viable option between EMC Symmetrix'. Consider LPAR access performance when enabling coupled dataset and sysres DASD.

Are you asking if you can SRDF/A from the DMX4 to the IBM array? If that is the question, the answer is no. The SRDF family supports replication between Symmetrix arrays.
Are you asking if your mainframe can use devices from both the DMX4 and the IBM array at the same time? Absolutely! Although you may have difficulty keeping mirrored data from the DMX4 synchronized with mirrored data from the IBM array

Our recovery site lags behind our production site in terms of technology, question answered, we need new hardware at recovery site.
