Hi, I am having a similar problem but my computer is only 2 weeks old. My battery says 9% available, plugged in not charging. Is there a way I can fix this fast? I am a college student and need to be able to use my laptop when is not charging to study as my finals are next week.
That's a 2 week old PC and it should have warranty covered. You should not be experiencing this since your PC is new but in some cases, even new pcs are encountering power problems.
Try this and it might fix the problem - click "Start", type "Device Manager", under Device Manager click "Battery", disable/enable it. AC adapter should be plugged in while performing these.
An incompatible AC adapter normally prevents a laptop from charging its battery.
I am currently having this problem. I have only had my Dell laptop since October 2012 and less than a week after having it had to have the AC adapter replaced.
I apologize, I should have clarified. I am getting the "plugged in, not charging" message. NEED HELP! Should not be experiencing this on a 5 month old computer.

You may have either of the following:
1. AC adapter is not compatible to your system.
2. Battery has reached its end of life.
So, you might need to change your battery or AC adapter. If both have been with the system for about 2 years, I recommend to replace both.
Hope this helps!
