Cannot update Lifecycle Controller Firmware on Dell R720xd

I'm facing a ftp.dell.com error, when I try to update the server firmware from Lifecycle Controller. I started by downloading the Platform Specific Bootable ISO (PER720XD_BOOTABLE_21.12.00.24.iso) and ran it, it updated everything to latest versions. When I press F10 to enter the LC and go to Firmware update section, I only have the FTP option, no HTTP or HTTPS. Even if I change the address to downloads.dell.com, I get an error.

What is the proper fix?

I apologize for not reading the information correctly. If I actually select Network Share as detailed into instructions, the HTTPS option is available.

Hello T3CK,

First I recommend to confirm you have the network settings for the LifeCycle Controller configured:

Dell Lifecycle Controller - Network Settings

Then follow steps: How to update Dell server firmware using the Lifecycle Controller on 12G and older.

Hi @Dell -Charles R, thank you for the links. I'm looking specifically for this instruction part:

Note: To utilize the online Dell catalog for 12G and later (first Update your iDRAC to the latest version)

  • For HTTPS, select Network Share -> HTTPS and enter downloads.dell.com in the Share Name/Address field. Then enter catalog in the File Path or Update package path to download the latest update catalog.

I'm already on iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller 2.65.65.65 (upgraded from 2.63.60.62), which is the latest version. When I press F10 at boot to open LC and go to Firmware Update, I don't see the HTTPS option, just FTP. How do I enable the HTTP and HTTPS options into LC at boot time? I can see the HTTPS option into web interface and download/install the available updates through web console (I have an iDRAC Enterprise license), but not into LC Boot menu.

I cannot edit anymore the previous reply so I'm adding a new reply: One more important detail, why I went through all this trouble of updating firmware from BIOS LC, instead of the web interface.

There are firmware packages that can be be upgraded only through BIOS interface, for example the network cards firmware. Also, from experience, if best you update one firmware package at the time. I know is time consuming but is the safest way to perform updates.

Yes @Dell -Charles R is quite obvious and explained well into documentation, but I was used to the way information is presented inside web interface. Thank you for the useful links.
