Connecting to idrac9 Basic on Home Server
Hello there,
This is my first time setting up a server of any kind, so please excuse any basic questions! I recently received a Poweredge t140 with idrac9 basic. I believe that even with the basic license I can still connect to the web gui, but for some reason, I cannot. I plugged both ethernet ports into the back of my fios router (the ports are blinking) and then in google chrome, I typed in the IP address that I assigned through lifecycle. But Chrome keeps telling me the site cannot be reached and I cannot even ping the IP address because it keeps timing out.
So questions I have:
Do I need to have a specific IP address in order to connect to idrac?
Do I plug the idrac ethernet cable into my fios router?
Do I need to do anything to my fios settings?
Why won't it work (please do not point me to more dell websites I've studied those for hours and they didn't help)?
Thanks!
-Pat

Hello Pat,
I'm sorry to see the DRAC is giving problems getting it set up.
You do need to set an IP you can reach on your network.
Boot to F2 > iDRAC Settings > Network.
Configure IP, Subnet and Gateway.
Note connection being used i.e. LOM1 or LOM2 (Lan-on-motherboard)
Dedicated port is an optional add in port card for T140 and would only be active with an iDRAC Enterprise license.
Configuring iDRAC9: https://dell.to/2DvDtsi
Try to direct connect a notebook to the LOM port you chose in the set up and test connectivity.
Example:
If you iDRAC is 192.168.1.10, 255.255.255.0
Set your notebook to 192.168.1.11, 255.255.255.0
If you can connect then check your router with the manufacturer that you have the ports open the DRAC needs.
iDRAC port numbers: https://dell.to/2DyXmyx
Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks so much! It turns out that I needed to connect it to LOM2 and learn how IP addresses actually work. Looks like I have a long way to go for this to get setup. Thanks for the tip!
