Dell Management Console Server Names

Good Moring

I have recently installed DMC, on a server and I am setting up all of our 140 servers

I have added the servers in via the Discovery and they have came back with there Host names. e.g GPS00000serv1.

However I want to know exactly where GPS00000serv1 is located. I want to change the name in DMC so it shows the site. for example if the server was located in the IT department I would want it to show IT Dept.

Otherwise I am going to have to be cross referenceing all 140 servers with a bit of paper.. Hardly a good idea and not very technical

Would be greatful if anyone can help

Cheers

Hi Mike,

One idea may be to use the sysLocation field (mib-2).  If you have a tool that can do snmp sets, you may be able to set this for your servers.  I think DMC displays location, but I don't have a console in front of me at the moment.  It would be: Server right click to RM, then go to View | Summary | HW inventory...something like that.

Regards,

Rob

fyi...DMC group is here.
