DOM perc cache policy settings??
PE2950 Mod 3, running W2K3 32 bit standard. Using Dell Open manage 5.5, 3 x300GB drives, Raid 5, Perc 6I w / the most updated perc 6i firmware and drivers.
Issue: During RAID configuration, there is no option to enable / disable cache policy, except for that read ahead, write through is in effect disabling the cache. However, When looking at the cache policy in Dell Open Manage>virtual drive>cache policies, you can change read and write policies. There is also a setting to enable or disable cache policies. No matter what settings I choose for read and write, the cache policy shows as disabled by default, in DOM. Is this a true setting, is it actually disabled?
I have a couple servers in Australia that have the wrong cache policies. We use read ahead - write through (basically disabling cache). However - these 2 are set for NO read ahead and write back. Even though DOM shows NO read ahead and write back, it also shows cache policies as disabled. Which is correct? They are either enabled or disabled by what settings you choose for Read and write, and these are set for cache, but show as disabled????I want to change the policy to read ahead and write through, but since it shows as disabled, do I need to worry about this?
These are 2 DC's with an active AD database running. They also happen to be 2 combination servers (setup for DC and file server when Packateer was an option). If I do change these settings, will the cache be flushed and corrupt the database?
Thank You for responding!
