DRAC 5 and SMTP Server Problems
I have been attempting to setup the SMTP notification for platform events. However, I have been unable to get this working correctly. I verified my SMTP server was functioning correctly by using telnet to access the server and manually sending an email to myself. I did a gettracelog from the DRAC 5 diagnostics and received the following information:
Record: 231
Date/Time: Feb 12 13:24:26
Source: webcgi[537]
Description: Email Alert to smtp_ip=137.99.25.204 email_addr=student0312@ad.uconn.edu
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Record: 232
Date/Time: Feb 12 13:24:26
Source: webcgi[537]
Description: EMAILALERT: smtp_send_msg fails
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Record: 233
Date/Time: Feb 12 13:24:26
Source: webcgi[537]
Description: All email alerts are sent.
The smtp_send_msg fails doesn't explain why it fails... I attempted to google search this and found nothing. My SMTP server does not require authentication, as I have simply connected via telnet and send a test email to myself. Any ideas? Furthermore, I have manually reset the DRAC5 controller using the racreset command from the RACADM CLI.
Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem. I setup the DRAC to connect to an existing SMTP server, and no message is ever sent. Watching the logs on the SMTP server, the DRAC never even attempts to connect. There is nothing on the SMTP server that would block connections from the DRAC, and the DRAC can ping the SMTP server.
I get the same "smtp_send_msg fails" error, but no further explanations.
This is a DRAC 5 on a 2900 with firmware 1.32 build 07.12.22.

Exact same problem with 2950 and M1000 and M600 blades. Exchange 2007 logs nothing. Telnet and other services work just fine.
I will try with network monitor to capture packets if anything is sent since i highly doubt idrac sends anything off..
