the telnet console is text mode only.  Sounds like when GRUB (graphic mode) is loaded you are loosing the console.  For continuous video you will need to view the console from inside the GUI, this will load an activex control that does provide continuous video

On the 2650's that we use with the DRAC 3, when you connect video you get a text console. Not a graphic display.

Thanks. That did the trick.  It is not exactly the same presentation as the DRAC 3 but it is definately useable. I am guessing that has something to do with the terminal being ansi vice vt100.
