Firmware Update from Dell's repo failed R730xd

I'm trying to update our R730xd Lifecycle controller with the recommended updates. Dell Lifecycle Error Update.PNGDell Lifecycle Updates.PNGIt scans ftp.dell.com fine

and lists the available updates but when I go to apply them it errors with "unable to install the Update Packages".

I've seen a recent post on this where Josh Craig from Dell said it should be resolved and if users are still experiencing issues to start their own thread.

Help please. I've got 4 Nodes I need to get up to date.

Current and New versions listed below.

Hello

Online updates only work with the iDRAC9 currently. There are plans to release a firmware update for the iDRAC7 and 8 that will allow them to use the online catalog. You can use Dell EMC Repository Manager to create local repositories or a repository image.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

When did this change as we have only recently used the online repository for some R330 and T330 within the last 6 weeks.

I'm not sure of the exact date. We had multiple issues over the past 1-2 months that limited the ability to use online catalogs. This change occurred during that time period.

One month later and still nothing? An essential tool for sysadmins to keep the everything up and running is not available for majority of your clients?

I got a new T330 here and every single update through Lifecycle controller has failed in the last 24 hours, after many many tries.

A firmware update was released May 3rd to add the HTTPS feature to the iDRAC7/8. We are investigating issues with the firmware update, and it is likely that the update will get pulled from the download site. At this time, the issues appear to only be with 12th generation systems using the iDRAC7. If you encounter issues with the iDRAC8 please let us know.

I have a T330 here, so 13th generation. It seems to be the classic "FTP up and running, catalog downloaded but full of broken links" problem. It usually gets fixed (relatively) quickly, but just tried it again and still not fixed.

The catalog file is set to only use HTTPS. You can download the catalog without HTTPS, but if you don't have the LCC set to HTTPS then it won't be able to download any updates. Make sure you have firmware 2.63.60.61 and you have the method set to HTTPS with the radio button.

How I can set the updater to use HTTPS in LCC? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but I can't seem to find the place to this.

The option to select HTTPS will not exist unless the latest firmware that adds the feature is installed. That firmware will need to be installed using another update method aside from the online catalog since the online catalog cannot be used without the HTTPS feature.

There are issues with the 2.63.60.61 firmware update. I recommend not installing it. You can discuss issues with the firmware update on the thread about it.

You can discuss the online catalog issue with iDRAC 7/8 in this thread:

Please confirm if I understand the situation correctly: the only LCC firmware version that enables updates over HTTPS is also the version that causes some servers to fail to POST?

Yes, we released iDRAC/LCC firmware update 2.63.60.61 on May 3rd 2019 to add the HTTPS feature to LCC platform updates. The same day it was released we received reports of LCC crashes when trying to enter LCC/System Services via F10. It is not creating a no POST situation, but the LCC is failing to load properly.

So, there is no way currently to use our online catalog to perform updates via F10 system services/LCC. We have pulled the iDRAC/LCC FW update 2.63.60.61 from iDRAC7 systems. The update is still available for iDRAC8 systems since they do not seem affected by the issue.

I do not have an ETA for the new iDRAC FW update. These updates are being pushed out of the normal update cycle, so we are trying to get this feature added with a firmware update ASAP.

Some weeks ago I bought a refurbished T320 and today I run again the LLC via F10 to update the firmware, but no chance.

Today is 1st July 2019, Firmware Update is still not working. I can't believe having this issue for so long time with a server.

You mentioned an aside way to update the servers, can you explain how to do it?. Thanks.

This issue is resolved. You have to apply the update that adds HTTPS support before you can update using the online catalog. You will need to update the iDRAC/LCC using another method before you can use online updates with our catalog. Installation instructions should be on the firmware download page. They may also be in the iDRAC documentation.
