Getting Nothing with RAC & 1750PE

I'm completely lost with the RAC, please help:

I have a 1750PE  (windows 2003), with 'RAC VIRTUAL UART PORT' listed in the hardware config. I have OpenManage installed and the latest BIOS update. OpenManage sees the RAC, as does the BIOS boot up scan.

When I click the link to 'connect to remote interface' i get our internal company webpage that IIS is serving on this particular server. How do I get around this problem?

Also, I don't know which NIC I should turn on and setup for the RAC, There's an Intel PCI NIC and 2 internal Broadcom's. Do I need to have the NIC hold the same IP as the RAC setup in OpenManage?

If this is all too much to ask, I just need to be shown how I can setup a simple telnet session with the RAC, so I can telnet in and reboot it whenever Win2003 freezes.

I appreciate your help.

Ok, let me see if I can help you out.. I am pretty new to RACs, so I dont know if I am totally correct.

1) The onboard "RAC" should be assigned an IP address using the prompt when the server is booting up.
2) Boot up into windows, and test to see if you can telnet/ping that IP address that you assigned to the RAC.
3) Install SNMP in windows and set that up
4) Install the Dell Open Manage stuff in windows

Dell Open Manage uses a webbased control panel that might interfer with IIS, depending on how you have things setup. Try turing off IIS for a little while, then restarting open manage to see if you can connect.

Anyways, the RAC should just allow you to do low level tasks, such as shutting down the server or rebooting it. Dell OpenManage is an extention of SNMP which lets you monitor quite a few variables in order to gain better information on your system.

Hope that helps

Thank you for the previous replies to this post.  It is correct that an ip address needs to be assigned to the DRAC using the Ctrl-D option in post.  The DRAC (which is a daughtercard in this server) has its own NIC.  The system NICs are independent.  Please then flash the DRAC with the latest firmware from support.dell.com.  You should then be able to open a browser and type http://ipaddress_assigned_to_DRAC.  Then login with root/calvin.  This will provide basic DRAC access, which includes sensor information and hardware level reboot options.  Under the Remote Access Controller section in Device Manager you should have 3 devices enabled-'RAC VIRTUAL UART PORT', and 2 PCI Functions which are either 0 and 1 or 0 and 2.

To enable software level reboot options and console redirect, you will need to install Dell OpenManage Server Administrator and choose the Remote Access option.  This installs the necessary agents and drivers to enable the DRAC to work with the operating system.

For more information, please see the ERA/O users guide located at

Thanks for your response Michelle,
my problem is that I am running IIS 6 on the servers that I need the remote DRAC setup on.
When I goto "http://ipaddress_assigned_to_DRAC" I get our IIS pages. Turning off IIS also yielded no DRAC access page.

I just want to setup basic telnet access to these DRAC NICS, are there directions or can you assist me?

Thank You!
