iDRAC and SNMP

Hi All

Some advice could be helpful here.

We have an estate of multiple Physical Dell Servers in a blend of Blades and rack mounts.

They are all configured for SNMP.

They all test out ok for SNMP

However during testing for some reason randomly and occasionally an SNMP test trap will be sent and not received by the software at the other end.

Is there anything that can be done to either troubleshoot this or make the service a little more robust. ?

Hi, I would check SNMP version on server and whether software is compatible or not. Also, I'd be ensure the firmware of servers up to date. It could be regarding with trap handling by software side. by software side please check which port is listening (162). SNMP traffic uses ports 161 and 162. This reminds me please be ensure there is no firewall rules between servers and software. I would check also SNMP service status on servers. These what come to my mind for now.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

Many thanks.

All very good options.

However I know it works as all of the testing passes 95% of the time.

So it doesn't look like config

Paulk999,

It may be necessary for you to call in to the OpenManage/SysMgmt group to resolve this, with it being that intermitent, as it will likely require directly working with it and reviewing the logs.
