There is not enough information here to know what's wrong. Can you post what's in any of the following installation logs (look in the $OWARE_USER_ROOT directory) - setup.log, app_setup.log, and db_setup.log.
Where did you look for the install log files? If the log itself is not generated then I'm thinking the installer itself didn't run. Perhaps you should re-download the software. Perhaps it is corrupted. I will send your question to the engineers on this product to see if they have any other idea.
I, too, have been having this problem for several months on many different machines. I don't have any of the suggested log files anywhere, and I've both downloaded the installation and have tried running it off the CD.
The other post mentioned that the problem was a result of a bad install file. Can you describe your issue more so we can determine if your problem is also a bad installation file or if it is something else?
This software is provided only through download so when you said you installed from CD, where did you get the CD? Is it a CD you burned yourself from the software you downloaded or something you got from Dell?
Have you tried re-downloading the package as was done to resolved the problem in the other post?
My mistake, I thought I tried to install it off the documentation CD that was included with the switches, but I guess it's not on there.
I just tried downloading the file again, but when I go to support.dell.com, choose PowerConnect, 3424, Drivers & Downloads, Windows Server 2003, English, Systems Management, Dell OpenManage Network Manager, all I get is a link to the powerconnect_firmware_version.xml file. There doesn't appear to be a link to download OM_NM again.
Also, this forum was down all morning both from a connection here at work and from a connection at home... that was a little frustrating as well.
Sorry about the mess on the web site - you can find the image at this FTP site - ftp.dell.com/network/ONM_v2_0_0_221.zip. We will get the links and stuff working again on the web site.
