Installing IT Assistant and managing computers.

Question

I'm looking for a way to start managing computers on a hardware basis, since Zenworks does a great job so far on the software side. I've downloaded IT Assistant and the OMCI client. I've installed both, on seperate machines, but I can't get machines inventory to import. The machine I installed the OMCI client on doesn't have port 1311 open (tried with the IT Assistant test and via webpage) and I can't get the snmp set piece to work. Both machines are Windows XP and I installed the SNMP and the WMI SNMP options. What am I missing?

I did install OMCC, but I installed it on the same machine as the IT Assistant, as that's what I saw on another post. I'll try it on the OMCI machine.

Have you installed OMCC on the client machine you installed omci on? You should also make sure you are using the most current versions of each. OMCI - 2.1 OMCC - 7.3 ITA - 4.5. If you make sure you have these, you will avoid a lot of head aches along the way.

You do not need SNMP on the client machines. SNMP is only used for the servers you wish to monitor. Install ITA and OMCC on one machine and OMCI on the other. The OMCI machine is the "client" and the ITA/OMCC machine is the "Management Station"

There are some configuration options that you must do to the ITA/OMCC machine to make everything work.
