Interfacing openmanage to Generic cim/wbem implementations

Hello,

i would like to interface openmanage with non-omci, non-windows machines using CIM. in particular we're talking about solaris WBEM and openpegasus for linux. however, it seems like dell openmanage assumes it's accessing cim via WMI.

a) is there any way to tell openmanage to use standard WBEM instead of WMI?
b) is there any standard/recommended way to interface non-dell machines to openmanage?

i like openmanage and the featurebase, but not being able to manage non-dell machines properly would be a serious detriment.

I've been watching Open Manage progress over the last 5 years, and little has changed when it comes to dealing with non-Dell hardware. They really don't seem to be interested in Open Manage being and end to end management tool. It's pretty much just window dressing so they can say they have a management tool. The only thing I've actually found was useful was a central way to deploy certain bios settings to OMCI enabled Dell clients, and to execute WOL events to a bunch of machines.

if that is indeed the case... it's time to ditch openmanage in favor of a more robust tool.
i think i will still install OMCI as it enhances the management capabilities exposed via CIM, and bother with a third-party tool to match the functions to the push.

overall it will be pretty sad, but if that's the case... so be it.
