ITA 7 Issues...
I use one portable and one desktop dell systems connected on my network's switch.
Both of them running windows xp sp2 with firewalls disabled.
The systems are joined on a windows nt4 domain controller (non Dell) with no policies applied.
On my portable I installed IT assistant 7 (open manage systems
management cd 4.3) and the OMCI 7.1.387 on both of the machines.
I also installed the client connector application on them.
I configured the snmp service on both systems with two community names.
One is PUBLIC given the ip address of the host and the other is SET
given the ip address of the IT Assistant machine.
I also created the "cim_user" as a domain admin with password "dell" and
added him to the local administrators group of the systems. I then modified the local
group policy of the two systems and added the cim_user to the "logon as
a service" policy field.
On the IT assistant I have specified on the discovery range the ip
address range of the two systems. I enabled snmp and on the get and set
community fields I specified "Public" and "SET" accordingly.
I've also enabled CIM discovery giving the above credentials for the "cim_user".
On the actions menu of IT assistant I have enabled alerts for the two
clients selecting all the possible type of alert events.
The problem is that I'm geting basic alerts "system is up/down" but I
cannot get any "chassis intrusion alert" for example when I open the
chassis of the desktop or the "amount of memory changed" alert when I remove one
of the memory modules.
IT assistant just changes the status of the system from a green tick to a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside
and that's all. No further details to inform me that a chassis intrusion detected.
I know that the program becomes aware of the chassis intrusion not only because it changes the status of the machine but also because
when I create a report out of the alerted system and export it to an html, I can see the "chassis intrusion detected" registration.
On the other hand the email actions that I configured for all the events do not tell me anything about the intrusion!
I get emails that just say system is up or down and nothing more...
From what I know out of the previous versions of ITA normally I should get an alert for these types of events on the system's log!!
In fact on this release of ITA the CIM configuration should be enough for the things I'm trying to achieve.
I mean the new OMCI now works with the WMI of the windows and not DMI so no need for SNMP unless you have some servers too.
Am I getting it right or I've just missed something?
When I use the IT assistant troubleshooting tool the results are:
Both systems pass the SNMP connectivity, name resolution and ping
connectivity with success.
The CIM connectivity test indicates a green tick icon:"Connected to windows name space-Client name space" and a red X icon :
Failed to connect to Server name space. From what I red from the documentation this is normal because I'm using workstations
and no servers.
The Port 1311 connectivity returns an "Unable to
establish a connection with the port on the target device" Error
message. Which is again normal because it is the port that server administrator uses to work not ITA.
I' ve red the white paper for the xp sp2 issues and made all the modification but none of them helped!
I' ve also red almost every thread on the openmanage forums and I realised that you have to create a task specifying CLIs to reset the bios logs.
Something which you didn't need to do on the previous versions.
Could it be possible that I now have to create tasks for the system to alert me too?
Please any help for the above issues would be appreciated...
Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post...
