Latest SUU (Server Update Utility) 6.1.0
I'm having trouble with the latest SUU from 7/1/2009. I boot off the Systems Management disc, then choose firmware update, insert the SUU disc, and it checks all the firmware versions and tells me which one's can be upgraded. I have 5.5.1 disc and it's around 2.8 or 3 GB and it works fine, from May 2009.
When I choose the 6.1.0 download from here, there are two discs that come up OM_6.1.0_SUU_A00.001 and OM_6.1.0_SUU_A00.002. If I download 001, it saves as 1.8 GB or around there. When I mount that ISO as a drive using Daemon tools, the properties show 3.3 GB. If I burn that disc to DVD, then try to update my server, it gets to 57% complete and has a CD/DVD read-IO error, every time.
So I downloaded OM_6.1.0_SUU_A00.002.iso thinking I need to create 2 DVD's or try to combine them into one DVD? When I download 002 and mount the ISO, nothing can be read from that mounted drive.
If I recall correctly, my older 5.5.1 disc downloaded as one large .iso file, around 3 GB. Am I doing something wrong?

You need to join the two ISOs together first. From addtional information:
"2) Download the two ISO file segments to a new, empty folder and concatenate them. Create a single DVD image file using the following commands:
Windows: copy /b OM* OM_610_SUU_A00.iso
Linux: cat OM* > OM_610_SUU_A00.iso"

I've joined both ISO file segments together but when I try to launch suulauncher.exe either local or across the network a blue Server Update Utility Launcher appears and then disappears and nothing comes up after that? I then notice a more.com process launch each time I double click suulauncher.exe. What gives?

I posted a related problem with OM_6.1.0_SUU_A00 at
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19289712.aspx
The problem is that, after burning both DVDs and wasting time, I read the text file on installation and found out that, in spite of the ISO ending, they are not two DVDs but one split into two files. I followed the directions (see post thread referenced above) and made a single DVD, but it isn't bootable. Obviously the splitting and joining somehow made it non-bootable. It reads just fine in Windows, so I am sure it joined correctly, and I have downloaded many DVDs and burned them with Disk Utility on Mac and ImgBurn on Windows, and I have never had a problem not booting. However, this joined image will not boot on the Dell server or any clients.
I tried both the *nix method using 'cat' and the Windows command prompt method using 'cp /b' , as detailed in the directions.
Dell used to have DVD-sized images on the Downloads page. I can't imagine why they are splitting them, especially since it is creating a lot of frustration for enterprise users. Dell gets a lot of complaints about individual user support, but in the past enterprise and business support was good. However, this DVD issue alone has cost me many hours that I cannot spare.

I have a friend of a friend and the truth is that the DVDs were split because too many complaints were submitted to Dell that the dnloads would fail before they would complete, so the decision was made to split the images.

How do we get Dell to either place a split file up on the site or have them place the large iso ? The normal method some of us are used to is something like xxx.iso.001 and xxx.iso.002 format, not 001.iso... Some of us might is zipsplit or similar tools that this format wont work.
The "copy /b OM* OM_610_SUU_A00.iso" does make a single iso file. My colleague informs me that SUU's are not bootable.

I talked to my buddy about this, and he will suggest they change the file name, but posting the 3.xGB file is out of the question. he also says the second image is going to get bigger soon.

SUU takes a couple of minutes to perform a system inventory and then display it.Another way of trying to update is through CLI.
If you have a windows system, mount the iso and run suu commands in cmd.
In linux ,mount the SUU and then run suu -u to perform system update.

The Dell Systems Update Utility (SUU) isn't bootable. You can execute it in Windows quite easily or to use SUU pre-boot you need to use the Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU). In that utility there is an option to update the server using the SUU media (SBUU will actually eject it's own media and ask for the SUU disk or repository). I have done this multiple times with VMWare and Citrix XenServer host machines. By the way, the OpenManage SBUU and SUU version 6.2 disks were released in December 2009. Looks like Dell tries to release these about every 120 days.

I still can't believe that after making you download three 1+ GB files and joining them together yourself, they don't even provide an MD5 hash of the final file (or the 3 individually).
Huge oversight in my opinion. Who comes up with this stuff?
