OM ITA Software Updates
Hi,
Would anyone be able to provide instructions on how to configure ITA to push out updates to our Dell servers please?
Also, can this be used to push out updates to hardware such as PERC controllers?
Thanks,
Rich

Easy as 123
navigate to https://servernameofDellITAssistant:2607
Login using DOMAIN credentials
Select Manage, Software Updates...
RMC on IT Assistant Repository and click add (then browse to the SUU5.2.1 cd and select the XML file)....
This updates DITA with all versions of hardware and also indexes the updates for you to deploy, then simply select your model, select which update you want (be it firmware, bios etc) click compare
then select which systems and what time to deploy to...works well.

I would recommend going through the "Sotware Updates" chapter in IT Assistant Users' Guide: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smitasst/8.1/en/ug/softupda.htm#1043338
You may choose to import the updates (BIOS, Firmware, Drivers) into IT Assistant from one of the 2 sources:
1) PowerEdge Update DVD (The Server Update Utility disk - SUU)
or
2) Let ITA periodically check the Dell website and automatically download the new updates.
The details of both can be found in the above link. (The previous reply in this post talks about the DVD method, you can see the detailed steps in User's guide).
Also, pushing out these updates requires that your managed servers have OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) already installed and configured. If you have not already done that, you could do so, using IT Assistant itself, using the "Software Deploy" task under the "Manage->Tasks" screen.
Use valid administrator credentials (with domain) while doing Software Deploy or Updates. Use SSH for updating any managed servers running Linux.
