There is a known issue in OMSA with IE 11 after IE update of October 2019. This is related to JAVA libraries used. This issue is fixed in latest OM builds. As there is no OMSA release for Windows 2008 R2 post 8.5 we have below workaround.

  • Download and install JRE 8u251
  • run omconfig preferences webserver attribute=setjre jreversion=1.8.0_251
  • Restart DSM SA Connection Service

HI Nathaniel,

I've run into something similar before. What I tried, and fortunately succeeded with, was a full uninstallation, then reinstalling OMSA. An upgrade installation wasn't sufficient in the case that I'm recalling. You might see if it works for you.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but it doesn't seem to have helped.

I didn't reboot between uninstall and re-install; might that be necessary?

Go ahead and give it a try. I can't recall if I had done that or not, but it can't hurt. If anything is getting hung up in temporary files, a reboot would clear that before a reinstall.

I uninstalled OMSA, rebooted, and re-installed OMSA.  Still doing the same thing, login screen-enter credentials and click Submit-login screen again.  I even rebooted a second time after re-installing, but it didn't change anything.

I tried a bad login, to confirm it would give a different screen, which it did.  So it's not a matter of me getting the password wrong.

What browser are you using to attempt to login? Try another browser to see if that makes a difference for you. I'd go ahead and clear your cookies as well, this is the next most successful approach.

Unfortunately, I was unable to update my systems' JRE, as it now requires buying a license that my company does not have.

Instead, I found that I could download Chromium, and run it as a "portable" browser (no install necessary).  I'm sure a Portable Apps browser would also work, but again, company restrictions prevent me from trying.

Thank you all for your assistance, and patience.

This worked for me:

1) Download and install JRE 8u251
     https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/javase8u211-later-archive-downloads.html

2) run
     omconfig preferences webserver attribute=setjre jreversion=1.8.0_251

3) run
     omconfig system webserver action=restart
