I have spent needless hours looking for this, and I have come up with nothing. What is the default password for "root"??? Thank you.

The Default password for root is calvin unless you changed it during installation.

Is there a way to change it??? How dod you do it? Can it only be done during installation?
TIA,

I have found the hard way that when installing OpenManage, "always" choose custom. From there you can set the password. If you do not choose custom, the default password may be calvin and it may not.
If you install OpenManage with the express option and cannot get in using calvin, your looking at a reinstallation.
Thanks Dell

True, however, you have to know the current password.
The problem here is installing OpenManage using the express option and the password not be assigned as "calvin".

I think calvin needs to be all small letters (no caps).
I heard once that there is an ini file owned by administrator that contains the encrypted password. If you find it you can delete the entry. This may reset it to root / calvin after a reboot. Not sure of the equivalent file (ini) in Linux.

Yes, calvin is in all lowercase. Here's something I've discovered.
There is an ini file named dcprv32.ini that is located in "c:\Program Files\Dell\OpenManage\OMSA\INI" that contains a line beginning with root=. Behind this is the encrypted password.
On a known password machine I have been able to save this root= value, change the password in server administrator, and then going back to the previous password by changing the root= value (copy and paste).
However, pasting this known value (calvin) into a "different" machine did not fix the unknown password problem.
Come on Dell, you can jump in anytime and help us with this !!!

I found something that "did" work.
Go to a known password server, login to server admin and change the password. Copy the root= info.
Go to the unknown password server and past the changed root= info. Then login to server admin and change the password to your liking.

Will the fix outlined in the last two msgs (in the msg string) also work for the same problem that I am having with Dell Open Manage Array Manager logon and password ?
Please advise, and again, thank you.

Hi Guys,
I thought I'd post this here, even though it's over 10 years old, but I still found it when searching for a solution, so it's still relevant! I just installed OMSA and didn't know what the login was, then I saw something which suggested it might be the local administrator login for the server - lo and behold that worked first time!
Hope that helps anyone else who might find this :)
