Physical Drives not detected?

Hello,

I've recently purchased a Dell R710 server with no storage, and I am currently in the process of trying to install the hard drives and configure RAID, although the physical drives are not being detected when I press Ctrl+R on bootup?

On bootup I receive two errors:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable.
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.

I also receive an error on the LED on the front of the server which states the following:

"E1211 RAID Controller battery failure. Check battery"

Whilst the server is booting on the console I receive this message:

"Battery hardware is missing or malfunctioning, or the battery is unplugged, or the battery could be fully discharged. If you continue to boot the system, the battery-backed cache will not function. If the battery is connected and has been allowed to charge for 30 minutes and this message continues to appear, then contact technical support assistance."

The server itself is running a Perc 6i Raid controller.

Is the root cause of the problem why my physical hard drives are not being detected because of the RAID controller battery needs replacing or do I need to enable something in BIOS to detect the physical drives?

The two drives I have are:

3.5" 1TB Barracude Seagate SATA
3.5" 1TB Dell SATA

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Padraig

Hi, happy 2022 to you.

although the physical drives are not being detected when I press Ctrl+R on bootup?

This sounds like you'll need a PERC6/I controller replacement, most likely because it's not recognized during POST.
