PowerEdge 2650 System Errors

PowerEdge 2650

Windows 2000 Server

5.00.2195

Service Pack 4

--------------------

I have a question about finding the root cause to some errors that occur periodically on one of my servers. About once a month for the last few months my system event log has shown a block of about a dozen errors that range from fan sensor error:

Fan sensor detected a failure value
Sensor location: ESM MB Fan7 RPM ---> (I have one event for each fan in the above mentioned block of errors)
Chassis location: Main System Chassis
Previous state was: OK (Normal)
Fan sensor value (in RPM): 0

to Voltage sensors (there are several of Voltage sensore failures as well):

Voltage sensor detected a failure value
Sensor location: ESM VTT Volt
Chassis location: Main System Chassis
Previous state was: OK (Normal)
Voltage sensor value (in Volts): 0.000

Voltage sensor detected a failure value
Sensor location: ESM 5 AUX Volt
Chassis location: Main System Chassis
Previous state was: OK (Normal)
Voltage sensor value (in Volts): 0.000

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to monitor and trace the root cause of these errors?

If you look at http://support.dell.com/enterprise_videos you can find instructions on how to install OMSA, which will let you look at the sensor values in real time and the hardware logs for when those errors showed up.  That might help some, and you can run some diagnostics to see if there are any specific problems it can find.  It is possible that you are having glitches in your ESM firmware, and if you update the firmware that might fix the problem.

Overall, it sounds like you may be having some problems with a power supply.  The diagnostics should give you more clues.
