PowerEdge R420 W/ iDRAC 7 BIOS and Firmware Update Path

I have read that it is not recommended to update to the most recent for BIOS and firmware and to update progressively. Does anyone have a recommended update path from my current state:

CPUs: 2x Xeon E5-2430 v2

BIOS: 2.1.2

Firmware: 1.57.57 (Build 04)

Lifecycle Controller Firmware: 1.4.0.128

I would recommend to choose one FW from each year based on  release date and perform staged update. You can go to Version section on support site to get release date and link for old releases. Also ensure you are updating BIOS and iDRAC in parallel one after another.

Below is one of the sequence I can recommend

iDRAC 2.10.10.10

BIOS 2.4.2

iDRAC 2.30.30.30

BIOS 2.6.0

iDRAC 2.60.50.50

BIOS 2.9.0

iDRAC 2.65.65.65

Latest BIOS and iDRAC FW available in below links

Thank you very much. I will try this out later and let you know how it goes!

Did this work for you? I believe using the last official full firmware CD may have bricked my iLO as all iLO functions are gone. Getting another board in hopes that it can be brought up to date without danger of that.
