R805 and VMware

Hi all,

I'm trying to install OpenManage on VMWare 3.5 (Update 1), on a Dell PowerEdge R805, but when I try to run srvadmin-install.sh, it responds with Unsupported system (sysid=0221).

The OM package that I'm trying to install is from ftp.euro.dell.com/sysman/OM_5.4.0_ManNode_A01.tar.gz, which appears to be the latest ManNode.

http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/shared/46637A00MR.pdf (installing OM on VMWare) says that you need to use OM 5.4.1 managed node on a R805; but whilst there's a version 5.4.1 for Windows (there's a .msp file), there's nothing for Linux, so how can you use something that doesn't exist? The doc is from May 08, so surely 5.4.1 must be available if it says you've got to use it.

We're about to put these boxes into production in a datacentre many miles away from where we're based, and need to be able to monitor for hardware failures.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Dell Community forums !

OM 5.4.1 for Linux(or ESX) should exist. You can go to support.dell.com > Select drivers and downloads > select R805 as your system (or provide service tag) > then chose "RHEL 5" as the OS. You should be able to see OM 5.4.1 OM DVD.

Here is the link that I found: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PWE_R805&os=RHEL5&osl=EN

Also, when you purchased the system, it should have shipped with a DVD containing OM.

You can also browse ftp site: ftp://ftp.dell.com/sysman/. But it is cumbersome if you dont know the exact name.

Hope this helps.

Bala.
