Hello d.beauchemin

The connection is secure and uses a certificate. There is likely a security setting within the browser that is stopping the console from opening. I would suggest:

  • Add the address to your trusted sites, if that does not work then
  • Disable pop-up blocker if enabled, if that does not work then
  • Test with a different browser

If that does not work then let me know which KVM you have, which browser, and the browser version. Also, let me know if it is downloading a file when you open the KVM session.

Thanks

OK, I tried it in a browser (Firefox 22.0) and I could see this Java message when I tried to open one server's console: http://filebin.ca/q9XrdNKGFj2/Dell_RCS2.jpg

Daniel,

I am using a Windows app, not a browser. See this file for the "About" box: http://filebin.ca/q9WGyOokpJk/Dell_RCS.jpg

It is trying to launch my Java 7, not its own Java 6.

After going through all 4 KVM units through the web I can now launch console sessions on 3 of them. None work through the Windows app, though.

The one that does not work is trying to access http://10.45.7.221:81/webstart2

Is it normal to go to port 81?

In the application go to tools>options. Set the browser as Firefox, or set Firefox as your default browser. If it is working in FF then changing this to use FF should allow it to work in the application as it uses the browser to perform the actions.

You can set the port in tools>options>http/https

FF was already my default browser but I changed the option and selected FF on disk. It still will not open a console window.

Also, is the Java 7 x32 or x64?

I'm trying to replicate the issue, but I'm not experiencing any problems. I am using Java 7.

Could you tell me the models of the switches, and also the operating system you are using? Also, try closing out of the application and opening it with Run As Administrator.

Sorry for the long delay... I was on vacation.

I have the following Java versions installed:

- Java 7 Update 25 (7.0.250)

- Java 7 Update 25 (64 bit) (7.0.250)

- Java(TM) 6 Update 45 (6.0.450)

I can also find the followind versions through the Java control panel:

- Java 6 Update 26 (for an EMC product)

- Java 6 Update 20 (for MindManager)

- Java 6 Update 2 (for the Dell Remote Console Switch Software)

I'm running Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bits on a Dell Latitude E6430s.

With FF I can open a console on most of my remote switches but there is one that says I can't connect to " thus refusing the connection. The others don't seem to go to port 81 and seem to work ok.

My switches are 2161DS-2 (2161DS-2 01.03.51.00).

Thanks!

I also have the same problem. Here are my stats....

Window 7 Professional 32 Bit

Java 7 U25

Java 6 U45

Dell Remote Console Software 4.1.0.46

Tried running as admin

Switch Version: 2161DS-2
Product Description: 2161DS-2 01.03.20.00
Application: 01.03.20.00
Boot: 01.00.00.04
OSCAR: 00.00.16.00
UART: 01.00.01.01
Video: 01.00.00.13
Hardware: 00.15.00.00

Tried referencing FF (23.0.1) directly in the app, not working.

How do I debug, I don't see any error messages. Any kind of logging I can turn on?

Thanks

ok, the :81 does not appear but is really there in the url.

There is a typo in my previous post: it says I can't connect to 10.45.7.221/webstart2. Why is it trying to go to port 81?
