Server Administrator vs. IT Assistant
What are the differences between Server Administrator and IT Assistant? I can find documents that hit all around the target, but they do not spell out what each does in relation to the other or whether you need one more than the other, or both. Maybe it's just me. Perhaps my mind has turned to mush after 15 years in the IT biz I'm certainly not new to this game but I cannot find anything that states anything such as in "xyz circumstances you need to use IT Assistant with SNMP, or Server Administrator with CIM, etc.
I have 30 PowerEdge servers running Windows 2000. I would certainly appreciate some help in determining which products will suit my needs without me having to test every blasted option.
TIA,
David Beck

Hi David,
A very short expaination:
Dell OpenManage Server Administrator must be installed on every PowerEdge Server. This is for local administration the server.
Dell OpenManage IT Assistant only needs to be installed on one PC (does not have to be a server) which monitors all the PowerEdge Servers as well as the Optiplex desktops and Latitude portable systems. The desktops and portables must have the Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI) installed.
SNMP is older technology and is being replaced on some systems / software with CIM.
