Software updates time-out in IT Assistant 8.7

Software updates keep timing out  when used in IT Assistant 8.7. I have increased the time-out in user preferences to 10 minutes (which is the maximum). Still receiving the same error. All our servers communicate through the IT assistant, so I dont know if its because of the large amount of machines on our network or whats causing it. +- 196 servers.

Any suggestions.

HI Jeff,

Thanks for the info, we have resolved the problem. We re-installed the IT Assistant and re-configured all settings. We had to increase the heap size on Java from 256 to 512 because there were just to many servers it was trying to contact.

Thanks for posting!  Are you running the system bundle?  Try pushing just one update to just one server and see how that goes.  If it doesn't work, download the Windows Update Package for that update on the download site and run it locally.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I cant actually get to the software updates. When i click software updates the IT assistant just locks up. I have downloaded the lastest software bundle and it works if it run it manually on the local machine. Problem is we have over 100 servers and we would like to use the software update option in IT Assistant. I have done a repair on the IT assistant software with 8.7. But still no luck. If you like i can send a screen shot of how far I get so you can see just incase im not making any sense.

Thanks

If ITA locks up when you try to get into software updates, you are probably having an issue with Java.  If you have multiple versions of Java installed, that will sometimes cause problems.  I suggest uninstalling all versions of Java, then when you open ITA it will install the version it needs.  When you go to software updates, you will see an error about adding a parameter to the Java command line to increase the heap size.  Make the change per the error message, and that will probably fix it.  Give it time to load, sometimes it will take a few minutes.
