The firmware repository file does not exist or is invalid
Hello all,
I tried to update of firmware through dell openmanage for vcenter 4.0.1.1503.
I've got a message from popup menu.
"The firmware repository file does not exist or is invalid : Configure the firmware update repository and make sure there is a valid catalog file present. Once configured, allow 10 minutes for the firmware bundles to be downloaded."
also, I found dell kb and it's knows issue.
www.dell.com/.../known-issues-and-resolutions
so I tried to solved problem according to dell workaround guide but it still doesn't works.
workaround is below,
============================================================
Issue 23: Running firmware update may display an error message, The firmware repository file does not exist or is invalid .
Description: While running the Firmware Update wizard, at the data center or cluster level, an error message may be displayed: The firmware repository file does not exist or is invalid . This may be due to a daily background process that was unable to download and cache the catalog file from the repository. This occurs if the catalog file is not reachable at the time the background process runs.
Version affected: All
Resolution/Workaround: After resolving any catalog connectivity issues that may exist, you can reinitiate the background process by changing the firmware repository location, and then setting it back to the original location. Allow about 5 minutes for the background process to complete and ensure that there is no @ character present in the credential provided for the CIFS share.
============================================================
I also know issue that dell site doesn't works often.
If I connect directly to the ftp site it is normal.
However, if you connect via openmanage, an error occurs.
Even a few days ago it was all a normal.
how about you?
Is this a problem for a while?
Thanks

Hi,
Can you try changing the firmware repository location and see if that works? http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/19/openmanage-integration-vmware-vcenter-v4.0/omivv-users-guide-v4.0/setting-up-firmware-update-repository?guid=guid-5aa0740a-9f66-4506-94d0-b3803975a7ec&lang=en-us
Try http://downloads.dell.com/catalog/

I'm having the same problem now. I'm pretty sure it worked most of the time last week.
At ftp.dell.com/catalog/, I see the file updated on 07/14.
7/14/2017 9:17 AM 1261484 Catalog.xml.gz
In OMIVV UI, the repository location is set to ftp.dell.com/catalog/catalog.xml.gz
See the case difference of the first letter of catalog.xml.gz. Could this be the cause?

Hi,
Is the error about downloading the repository or a failed checksum?

Can you try editing the repository path to the Catalog.xml.gz instead of catalog?

I can not point it to an other URL. Only CIFS or NFS allowed :-(

Same issue over here. It seems quite persistent. I haven't been able to get OMIVV to connect to the repository for days where the url is reachable by browser just fine.

If you choose shared network folder and put the whole path of the ftp site does it work?
I have reported the issue to the web team.

Hi,
problem still exist. OpenManage search for "ftp.dell.com/.../catalog.xml.gz" and on this site the filename is "Catalog.xml.gz"
