Should I uninstall the OMCI, or will doing so cause me problems? Just out of curiosity, what is the OMCI and what is it used for? Thanks for the help!!
To silently uninstall the client instrumentation with the instalation program, run the following command from the directory containing the installation program:
setup.exe /s/x/v/qn
Here is also a link to the Open manage client instrumentation user's guide, installation section. There is some more information on uninstalling the open manage client instrumentation.
Uninstalling OMCI all depends what you are using it for.
OMCI is a software that allows remote managemnet application, such as the Dell Open IT assistant to access imformation about your system, monitor the stus of your system, change the state of your system, or even shutting it down remotely. OMCI uses the common information model (CIM), which is a systems management protocol defined by industry standards. The WMI, microsoft's windows mangement instrumentation is microsofts implementation of the of the CMI. Here is a link for more detailed explaination of what the OMCI is and how it works.
If you are not using IT assistant to manage your laptop, or any of the systems on your network than I would go ahead and uninstall. If your laptop is part of a corporate network, I would find out first from your network admin if this was something that was pushed down to you.
My laptop is not part of a corporate network...it's on a home network that I've set up myself.
Will uninstalling OMCI affect any of the dell utilities, such as Dell Support 2.0 or Dell Solution Center? Also, will it affect other programs/utilities, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection? If not, then I'm definitely going to go ahead and uninstall it. Thanks for the help!
I looked over the documentation, and I could find nothing stated that OMCI, worked in conjunction with any of the programs that you listed. Also it should not mess with your remote desktop at all. If you are not running windows 2000 or XP professional, you would not be able to use the OMCI anyways. So go ahead and uninstall it. Once again, read over the documentation that is in the link that I put in the previous reply. This is the user's guide to the OMCI.

Hi Marc,
You can silently uninstall the client instrumentation either with or without using the installation program.
To silently uninstall the client instrumentation without the installation program, run the following command:
msiexec.exe /x{73f1bdb7-11e1-11d5-9dc6-00c04fc33b}/qn
To silently uninstall the client instrumentation with the instalation program, run the following command from the directory containing the installation program:
setup.exe /s/x/v/qn
